Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to reduced embryo size and midgestational lethality due to impaired development and hypovascularization of the placenta with decreased labyrinth cell proliferation and enhanced cell apoptosis. Mutant MEFs fail to exhibit fibronectin-induced migration.
