Mice homozygous for a targeted allele exhibit abnormal spacing of starburst amacrine cells and horizontal cells. Homozygotes for another targeted allele exhibit impaired phagocytosis of apoptotic cells by astrocytes. Mice heterozygous for this same allele exhibit mild disorganization of starburts amacrine cells.
