Homozygous deletion of this gene results in slow postnatal weight gain, thin body, decreased adiposity, and leanness coupled to increased energy expenditure and respiratory exchange ratio, hyperactivity, improved glucose tolerance and sensitivity to insulin, and decreased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity.
