Mutation details: The cre sequence was inserted into a plasmid between the Col11a2 promoter (-742 to +380bp) and 2.3 kb of the first intron of Col11a2 which acts as an enhancer, replacing the beta-galactosidase (lacz) coding sequence. This construct was injected into fertilized ova to establish a transgenic line. Mice were crossed to reporter mice. At E14.5, cre recombination was observed in all chondrocytes (round, flat, prehypertrophic and hypertrophic chondrocytes) in the limbs and ribs.
