Homozygotes for targeted null mutations become cyanotic and die within 2 days of birth due to chylomicron engorgement of capillaries. Mutants show hypertriglyceridemia and reduced fat stores. Heterozygotes show 1.5-2-fold elevated triglyceride levels.
