Notes |
Six mice with inherited cataracts were found among the F1 offspring of C3H/HeH males that had been treated with ethylnitrosourea. Five of the original F1 animals showed very similar phenotypes, with cataracts of variable severity that involved clusters or arcs of reflectant specks in the nuclear or perinuclear region. The mutations in these mice were designated Lop4 through Lop8. The sixth mutant showed an abnormality in the anterior cortex region; this mutation was labeled Lop9. Penetrance in F1 heterozygotes is probably incomplete. Homozygotes have not been positively identified, but mice with bright white nuclear cataracts were found only in progeny of crosses that could have produced homozygous offspring (J:8242).
