Mutation details: To define the requirements of Prnp for conferring susceptibility to scrapie, N- terminal deletion mutants of the Prnp genes were constructed in transgenic mice. In this transgenic line, amino acids 32-80 were deleted but the codons for signal sequence and nine additional amino acids were retained to ensure correct processing and cellular localization.
