Mutation details: This is a Cre-dependent allele that conditionally expresses a SNAP-tag protein containing a membrane associated CaaX consensus sequence. The SNAP-tag construct consists of an engineered O6-alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase that can be specifically and irreversibly labeled with O6-benzylguanine (BG) derivatives. Cre-mediated removal of the stop cassette induces expression of the SNAP-CaaX protein. The Cre-dependent conditional expression of SNAPCaax inner membrane protein allows chemical labelling of proteins in specific cell types in vivo.
