• mice do not lose the preference for an environment where cocaine was previously administered (i.e. conditioned place preference) even after 16 days have passed since the last cocaine dosing

• there is no increase in the ratio of AMPA-/NMDA- mediated receptor currents for the ventral tegmental area isolated from mice treated with cocaine as occurs in wild-type controls
• cocaine-induced synaptic strengthening in the ventral tegmental area does not occur in these mice
