• spermatozoa exhibit low maximum bending angles of the midpiece in primary anti-hook curvature in capacitating medium, indicating impaired hyperactivation
• percentage of progressively motile spermatozoa is reduced, likely due to their circular motion
• curvilinear velocity of spermatozoa at 10-min incubation is reduced
• flagellar beating pattern of spermatozoa shows an asymmetric waveform
• however, mice do not exhibit a reduction in the percentage of motile spermatozoa and average path velocity and straight-line velocity are not different from wild-type
• males exhibit impaired fertility
• fertilization rates are reduced in in vitro fertilization using cumulus-intact oocytes but fertilization rates are rescued when the zonal pellucida is removed from oocytes
• however, no abnormalities are seen in gross morphology or weight of the testis or in spermatozoa
