Origin: from a cross of BNxLEW with subsequent inbreeding.


Characteristics

Like strain BN, but in contrast to 17 other strains MAXX is susceptible to the development of mercury-induced autoimmunity to renal basement membranes with the development of membraneous glomerulonephritis (Henry et al 1988). Used to study alloantigen Eag-1 (Blankert et al 1987).
