Inbred Strains
of Rats: ODUS
Inbr. F42.
Colour: Albino
Genet. c.
Origin: As for ODU, but maintained at Osaka Dental University.
Characteristics
Rats exhibit markedly heavy plaque formation on the lower incisors and
develop both periodontal pocket and gingivitis after being fed with a
commercial powdered diet (
Shinohara et
al 1991). Pocket depth was correlated with the amount of salivary
sialic acid in pilocarpine-stimulated saliva, but not with serum sialic
acid (
Shinohara et al, 1994).
