Origin: Wistar rats selected for high voluntary 10% ethanol consumption, with brother x sister mating.


Characteristics

Mean daily voluntary intake of 10% ethanol solution 4.57 ml in males and 5.78 ml in females (cf UChA). Voluntary consumption of 10% ethanol increases over a period of time. UChA and UChB do not differ in length of alcohol narcosis induced by 60 mmol/kg ethanol given intraperitoneally (Mardones and Segovia-Riquelme 1983).
