Mice homozygous for a null allele show progressive high-frequency hearing loss, raised auditory brainstem response (ABR) thresholds, reduced ABR amplitudes, swelling of afferent terminals, inner hair cell synapse defects, and altered expression of AMPA receptor subunits and post-synaptic proteins.
