Nullizygous mice exhibit early postnatal death accompanied by reduced body size, hypokinesia, and reduced brain monoamine levels. Hypomorphic mutants show impaired olfaction, gastroparesis, altered sleep latency, neuron degeneration, enhanced MPTP sensitivity, anxiety- and depressive-like behavior.
