Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to in utero lethality. Embryos homozygous for a reporter/null allele are severely growth retarded and display defects in the extra-embryonic compartment, including a highly abnormal yolk sac and a narrow, largely avascular placental labyrinth layer.
