Mice homozygous for one allele of this gene are hypersensitive to alkylating agents and ionizing radiation and susceptible to streptozotocin induced diabetes and endotoxic shock. Mice homozygous for a second allele display embryonic lethality and fail tohatch from the zona pellucida.
