Mice homozygous for one knock-out allele are healthy and exhibit normal lung development and a normal life span. A different homozygous KO allele causes a significantly increased incidence of acidophilic macrophage pneumonia and spontaneous lung tumors at 1-2 years of age. Another different homozygous KO results in age-related and diabetes-related pathology in kidney glomeruli.
