Mice homozygous for a null allele dsiplay defects in naive, helper and anergic T cell states affecting survival, proliferation and cytokine secretion. Homozygotes for another null allele show impaired T cell tolerance and regulatory T cell function and increased susceptibility to autoimmune disease.
