Homozygous knockout reduces mitochondrial hyperfusion-induced apoptotic cell death of cardiac microcirculation endothelial cells after ischemia/reperfusion injury. Males exhibit sperm mitochondrial abnormalities associated with reduced respiratory chain complex IV activity, motility, and fertility.
