Homozygotes for a null allele have defects in lymphocyte homing to lymphoid tissues, B cell maturation and dendritic cell function, and display lymphocyte hyperproliferation leading to lupus glomerulonephritis and lymphomas. Homozygotes for another null allele are resistant to TNF-induced apoptosis.
