Homozygotes for a null allele show dwarfism, scoliosis, osteopenia, short long bones, altered gluconeogenesis and chondrocyte differentiation, low plasma IGF-I and liver zinc levels. Homozygotes for another null allele show reduced liver zinc levels and hepatocyte proliferation after hepatectomy.
