Alleles at this locus determine response to Friend Virus-P (VF-P) infection. DBA/2, BALB/c and AKR (p allele) show early polycythemia (high hematocrit); CBA/J and C3H (a allele) show early anemic response (low hematocrit). Heterozygotes have slight polycythemia with intermediate hematocrits.
