Mice homozygous for a reporter allele die neonatally with altered segmental identity and abnormal migration of motor neurons in the hindbrain. Mice homozygous for null alleles can exhibit partial postnatal lethality, narrow face, runting, absent facial motor nuclei, and facial nerve/muscle defects.
