This locus controls early induction of interferon (within 2-3 hours of treatment) in response to NDV and herpes simplex virus (HSV). C57BL/6 carries the high response allele; BALB/c the low allele. Heterozygotes have high response. Response is radio-resistant suggesting it may occur in macrophages.
