Multiple doses of streptozotocin (MSz) can induce diabetes in male mice. Susceptibility to diabetes thus induced varies widely among inbred strains. The BALB/cByJ substrain carries a recessive susceptibility allele; but BALB/cJ carries a dominant resistance allele. The locus is not linked to H2.
