Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic growth retardation, subcutaneous edema, placentation defects associated with placental hemorrhage and necrosis, abnormal placental labyrinth vasculature morphology and trophoblast layer formation, and complete preweaning lethality.
