Homozygous inactivation of this gene causes defects in lymphocyte proliferation, humoral immunity and cytokine production, and may lead to impaired Th1 responses and resistance to autoimmune disease. Mice lacking only the COOH-terminal region show severehemopoietic defects and lymphoid hyperplasia.
