This QTL contributes to JHM neurotropic-strain mouse hepatitis virus resistance. Most mice (e.g. C57BL/10, BALB/c) die of acute encephalomyelitis after intracerebral inoculation of JHM. Strain SJL/J carries a dominant resistant allele. Resistance requires resistant genotypes at both Rhv1 and Rhv2.
