This locus controls levels of liver SDSL (EC 4.1.1.13) and PCK1 (EC 4.1.1.32) induced by high-protein low-carbohydrate diet. BALB/cJ carries the a allele for high induction level of both enzymes; AKR, C57BL/6 and BALB/cBy carry the b allele for low induction level. Heterozygotes are intermediate.
