Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit inflammatory bone loss-like phenotypes including increased proinflammatory cytokine levels, increased osteoclast formation and bone tissue destruction, decreased osteoblast proliferation and enhanced proliferation of osteoclast progenitors.
