Homozygous disruption of this gene causes cervical vertebral transformation and may lead to pre- or neonatal lethality, sternal defects, impaired ventral body wall formation, diaphragm hernias and heart anomalies. Homozygotes for a null allele show a proliferation defect in hematopoietic stem cells.
