Homozygous null mice die at midgestation due to angiogenic remodeling defects and loss of vascular integrity leading to hemorrhaging in the head, heart and trunk. One fifth of heterozygous null embryos show lymphatic hypervascularization associated with hemorrhaging and edema in the jugular region.
