Mice homozygous for a null allele do not develop overt diabetes but do show reduced insulin receptor signaling in liver and adipose tissue. Under aging conditions or a high-fat diet, homozygotes show decreased weight gain with a significant reduction of body fat due to increased lipid excretion.
