Mice homozygous for an allele lacking the SPM domain exhibit partial penetrance of posterior vertebral transformations and male infertility with azoospermia and arrest of spermatogenesis. Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal hematopoiesis but normal fertility and skeleton.
