Mice homozygous for a null mutation display lysosomal storage pathology in the nervous system and peripheral tissues, including the liver and kidneys, resulting in Purkinje cell loss and age dependent cognitive impairment. Mice show a progressive degeneration of photoreceptor cells with age.
