Homozygotes for a null allele display fetal growth retardation and lethality, show multiple tissue hyperplasia and dysplasia due to unchecked proliferation and impaired terminal differentiation of epithelial cells, and develop hepatomas. Heterozygotes are prone to tumorigenesis and die prematurely.
