The locus affects susceptibility to lethal infection by mouse hepatitis virus 2 (MHV2). PRI and C3H.PRI-Hv1s carry the susceptibility allele; C3H/An carries the resistant allele. Heterozygotes are susceptible. Virus is effectively taken up by all macrophages, but does not multiply in resistant ones.
