Mutation details: Both alpha1 and alpha2 isoforms encoded by this locus were disrupted by the insertion of a cassette containing both a lacZ coding sequence and a neomyocin resistance gene into exon 2. This construct did not affect the internal promoter within intron 7, allowing expression, as well as increased expression, of delta1 and delta2 isoforms in various organs. A Northern blot confirmed the abrogation of expression of both alpha1 and alpha2 in the small intestines, brain, heart, liver, kidney, and lung.
