• Mutation details: A ~10 kb genomic fragment containing exons 1-6 was replaced with a hygromycin selection cassette inserted in reverse transcriptional orientation. These sequences encode five ankyrin repeats of the protein. Western blot analysis on spleen lysates derived from homozygous mice confirmed that no detectable protein was produced from this allele. Notes

The Jax strain JR003127 strain has been discontinued. The Jackson Laboratory Repository has been provided with sufficient evidence that the mutation is not targeted to the Bcl3 gene in the manner described in the primary publication (Schwarz et al. 1997 Genes Dev 11:187). While the exact targeting event is in question, published data demonstrate the lack of functional BCL3 protein in this mutant stock (Hunter and Kandarian 2004 J Clin Invest 114:1504).
