76 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 27.5 cM were screened in 535 F2 animals from a cross between inbred strains LG/J and SM/J to identify QTLs affecting skull morphology characteristics. The LG/J strain has a larger body size than the SM/J strain. A total of 26 skull morphology QTLs were identified. On mouse Chromosome 1, Skull1 maps to 46 cM - 68 cM with LOD = 4.67 at D1Mit7 and Skull2 maps to 104 cM - 134 cM with LOD>3.03 at D1Mit14. On mouse Chromosome 2, Skull3 maps to 69 cM - 78 cM with LOD = 9.32 at D2Mit17. On mouse Chromosome 3, Skull4 maps to 43 cM - 53 cM with LOD = 12.05 at D3Mit22. On mouse Chromosome 4, Skul5 maps to 26 cM - 54 cM with LOD = 6.41 and Skull6 maps to 66 cM - 84 cM with LOD>3.03 at D4Mit16.
