Highly prolific outbred (QSo) and inbred (IQ5) strains derived from the Quackenbush Swiss mouse line and the less prolific C57BL/6J inbred line were studied to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for prolificacy growth. Analysis of F2 progeny suggested the presence of a QTL (Fecq2) associated with litter size on mouse Chromosome 4, at D4Mit37 (LOD = 5.02). Suggestive, but not significant, linkage of mature weight has been associated with this region as well.
