Using MAPMAKER/QTL, mice from a backcross involving (C57BL/6J x Mus spretus)F1 x C57BL/6J were analyzed to identify quantitative trait loci that effect plasma cholesterol levels. A locus controlling plasma total cholesterol levels (Chol2, cholesterol 2) mapped on proximal mouse Chromosome 6 and exhibited a peak LOD score of 5.6 with D6Mit1.
