Mutation
description
Allele Type:    Targeted (Null/knockout)
Mutation:    Insertion

Mutation detailsExon 2, which encodes the conserved putative iron-binding domain, was disrupted by the insertion of a neomycin resistance gene. Acid phosphatase activity specific to this osteoclast isozyme was assayed and found to be undetectable in bone homogenates from homozygous mutant mice. Further analysis using histochemical staining confirmed the absence of a functional enzyme. (J:36232)
