Mutation details: Exon 2 was disrupted by the recombination of a construct containing IRES-lacZ and neo genes. Normal transcript was undetected by Northern blot analysis of homozygous mutant mice. Individual assays of various tissue homogenates showed a lack of DHEA hydroxylation, indicating the functional ablation of the encoded protein in homozygous mutant mice. The results obtained from beta-galactose staining differed from those of in situ hybridization.
