Mutation details: The last 14 codons of exon 6 and all of exons 7-9 were replaced with a lacZ-neo cassette via homologous recombination and results in an in-frame fusion of the lacZ gene to exon 6. Gene expression was absent in retinas of homozygous mutant animals as determined by Western blot analysis and immunostaining using antibodies directed against the C-terminus of the protein. Beta-galactosidase activity was not present in the mutant animals.
