119 polymorphic markers were screened in 633 (MRL/MpJ x SJL/J)F2 female animals to detect loci associated with femur breaking strength. 7-week old female animals were used for the study. Fembrs2 was identified on mouse Chromosome 8 with LOD=4.3 at D8Mit125. SJL/J-derived alleles confer increased bone strength with dominant inheritance at Fembrs2.
