Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:67848Twenty-four BXD (B=C57BL/6, D=DBA/2) recombinant inbred (RI) strains were evaluated for bronchial airway hyperrsponsiveness at 4 candidate loci syntenic to human chromosome 5q31-q33, a region associated with asthma in humans. Parental strain C57BL/6 is hyporesponsive whereas parental strain DBA/2 is hyperresponsive. One candidate locus on mouse chromosome 13, Bhr4, showed significant linkage to bronchial airway hyperrsponsiveness at D13Ncvs44 (P=0.0226) and maps near possible candidate genes Il9 and Caml. Examination of Il9 revealed differences in protein and mRNA levels between parental strains C57BL/6 and DBA/2. C57BL/6 exhibits decreased Il9 expression compared to DBA/2. The authors propose Il9 may be a gene responsible for asthma in mice and humans. |
