The authors indicated that short-wave sleep in mice can be measured by EEG activity within the 1-4 Hz range or delta power. Sleep loss results in an increase in delta power whereas excess sleep causes a decrease in delta power. The differences in delta power could be measured as a QTL in 25 strains within the BXD/Ty recombinant inbred line. QTL Dps3 was found on mouse Chromosome 17 with the closest linked markers identified as D17Mit16 , D17Mit28 and D17Mit233 with a LOD score of 3.17. The suggestive range was from 16.6 - 22.9 cM.
