Mutation details: A genomic fragment encompassing the coding regions of exons 1 through 4 was replaced with a cassette containing nls-lacZ and PGK-neo. The deleted region encoded the signal peptide and extracellular domain 1, a putative mediator of homophilic binding. Transcript was undetected by Northern blot analysis of muscle tissue obtained from homozygous mutant mice. Western blot analysis of skeletal muscle and cerbellar tissue indicated an absence of protein.
